Fred
joined PMSM Architects is 1977 and currently holds the title
of Vice-President. In addition to serving as Principal in
Charge on several large projects, Fred is also the Principal
in Charge of Design and Marketing. Over the last 25 years,
Fred has served as a mentor and trainer to PMSM staff members
under his management. He brings technical leadership and broad
design sensitivity to projects and consistently meets his
clients' needs by creating innovative and effective solutions
to design challenges. In 2000, Fred authored PMSM's Design
Process that serves as a learning tool and a guide for junior
designers and project managers. Fred also directs the firm's
municipal and community college practice groups. He presents
regularly at professional conferences such as the Community
College Facility Coalition and the Society for College and
University Planning.
Fred's chief interest
as an architect is in contributing to the continuing advancement
of education, not only in how people learn, but how architecture
affects and enhances the teaching and learning environment.
Fred brings over twenty years of experience in higher education
projects with specific expertise in consensus building, programming,
planning and designing higher education facilities that serve
as appropriate landmarks to their sites. Some of Fred's current
clients include Allan Hancock College, Cuesta College North
County Campus, Los Angeles Pierce College, and Reedley College.
While Fred specializes in and is passionate about community
college facilities, his diverse experience also includes projects
for municipal, educational (grades K-12), medical, and performing
arts clients.
Fred is an avid
watercolorist and plays a major role as a community leader.
Fred is the founding President of the Santa Barbara Architectural
Foundation. He serves on numerous community boards and organizations
including the College of Architecture & Environmental
Design Foundation Board at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, the
Santa Barbara Hispanic Achievement Council, and he served
as past President of the Santa Barbara Chapter AIA. Fred also
mentors high school and college students who aspire to be
architects.
