Jim joined PMSM in 1983 and currently serves as President and Managing Principal. In addition to serving as Principal in Charge of numerous large, multi-phased projects, Jim is also responsible for mentoring all staff members, leading strategic planning efforts, contract negotiations and serves as head of budgeting and quality control. Under Jim's leadership, the firm has grown significantly from 25 to approximately 40 employees and from one office to three.

Jim's expertise is in design, code compliance reviews, cost estimating, value engineering, and construction administration. Over the last 20 years, he has actively participated in educational, government, institutional, and health care facility projects. Jim is currently the Principal in Charge of projects for the University of California, Santa Barbara, Lucia Mar Unified School District, and the City of Lompoc. Both clients and employees benefit from Jim's knowledge and expertise in cost effective and timely project delivery that results from his solid communications methodology, attention to project team building, and background in construction.

Jim serves the community through his participation in professional and community organizations. He has served as past President of the AIA Santa Barbara Chapter, past President of the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara, past Director of the AIA California Council Board of Directors, and past President of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara Sunrise. He is also involved with the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce and the Architectural Foundation of Santa Barbara in the Built Environment Educational Program (BEEP) that teaches elementary school children about architecture and the built environment.

Jim also wrote the forward for the design firm book entitled "Staying Small Successfully" authored by Frank Stasiowski.
